No one saw this one coming!Posted by amwendwa in Victoria, Spartans, Soccer, Laval, CIS soccer |
I was reading a press release by the Canada West University Athletic Association. Issued November 16, 2009. They had a poll whereby viewers were asked " Which school will win the 2009 CIS men's soccer championship?"
The results showed Trinity western as the favored team to win, followed by Victoria and poor Laval had no votes.

Cascades lack experiencePosted by amwendwa in cis basketball |
November 12, 2008. Men's Basketball. I was perched up on the bleachers watching the Spartans man-handle UFV at the cascades Envision gym. Right from the beginning the Spartans went to work on the in-experienced cascades starting 5. As I was watching the game, I started to wonder how the cascades managed to win 5 of their last 6 games. Was it guess work, or just pure luck?
I am not exaggerating this, because, what I saw today was disappointing and just simply put, weak basketball. In the first three quarters they struggled with their shooting, they had no chemistry, too many turnovers, and incomplete passes. The Spartans were strong on the boards, recorded less turnovers and took more shots from the free throw line.

And then there were four. We are left with four teams, competing for the Vanier cup. In the Uteck Bowl we'll see Laval vs. Calgary and for the Mitchell bowl it will be Western vs. Saint Mary's.

November 9, 2008: I have to say this was a surprise for me. I really thought the spartans would win this one, but that is why i enjoys sports. The competition has no guarantees.
"This win was made possible by a combination of passion and sacrifices," said York head coach Carmine Isacco, whose team had been considered a top contender all season but came into the national championship as OUA finalist after being upset by Laurier in the Ontario final last Sunday. "I couldn't be more proud of this group of guys."
